Description:  perennial, grow in clumps, leaves gray, hairy, spoon-shaped, stems are hairy, some gray and some are reddish, flowers are yellow and in clusters.

Host plant of the Mormon Metalmark, Apodemia mormo, Sonoran Metalmark, Sheridan's Hairstreak, Callophrys sheridani,  Desert Green Hairstreak, Western Green Hairstreak and Lupine Blue, Plebejus lupini lutzi  butterfly caterpillars.
