Description
Length 17" Wingspan 25".   Dark back with pale spur on sides of the breast, head is peak, eye is pale except in juvenile.  Female breeding  plumage includes a white eye ring, dark cap on head and gray cheeks, white on face just above bill, bill is gray  with a black tip.  Male  breeding  plumage- black head, breast and back, gray to white on sides with white spur  near  neck, bill is outlined with white and has black tip
L 4.5 WS 6, gray, plain head, short bill, long tail
