Second Instar - molted  21 July 2011 - Photo shows how to change a larva to a new plant by pinning the old leaf to a fresh one
thereby avoiding dislodging it from the silk pad.

Third Instar
July 30, 2006 -  After molting to third instar, this larva stopped eating and died.  I think I injured him while trying to move him to a fresh host plant leaf.  These larvae make an extra strong silk mat  when they are about to molt.  They can be injured if you
try to take them off this mat.  As I have now learned, a better method is to cut the leaf around the larva without disturbing it and pin it to the new host plant leaf
