2 3/4 to 3 1/2 wing span. Yellow on black base, upper surface hindwing has yellow-orange eyespot near tail with black center, The host plant is Thamnosma montana (turpentine broom)

I was birding at the ranch and surrounding desert area so I didn't have the right  lens to get a close-up of these gorgeous butterflies.
