1.  Dorsal

Characteristics
  • 1 to 1.45 Inches long
  • Blue eye spots
  • wide, dark dorsal  thorax stripe and dark tapering lateral thorax stripe
  • abdomen segments more black than blue on segments three through eight
  •  third segment is more than half black
  • eighth and ninth segments are blue
  • upper appendages are forked
  • female light areas are tan or blue and the tail is dark
  • preferred habitat is ponds streams and lakes
