- 1 to 1.45 Inches long
- Blue eye spots
- wide, dark dorsal thorax
stripe and dark tapering lateral thorax stripe
- abdomen segments more black than
blue on segments three through eight
- third segment is more than
half black
- eighth and ninth segments are blue
- upper appendages are forked
- female light areas are tan or blue
and the tail is dark
- preferred habitat is ponds streams
and lakes
