This species in not poisonous to people but is too tough to be eaten.
This specimen was located in Draper, Utah in July 2014 on the stump of an Aspen tree.  It can be associated with Black Oak, White Oak, American Beech, Eastern White Pine, Virginia Pine, American Elm, Yellow Poplar, Mockernut Hickory and Sweetgum per fcps.edu.
