This pupa was not expected to start
developing until next year but began developing, showed
the wing pattern and then emerged into a butterfly on July
10, 2006 at
12:30 P.M.

San
Rafael River Bridge, San Rafael Swell, Emery County, Utah.

Characteristics
Size:
Rfw 52-71 mm (2 - 2 3/4 inches); black abdomen,
dorsal back with narrow cream or yellow submarginal band on both
wings.
Hindwing has orange eyespot with black center. Host: plants in the
umbel family. Flight March to August and may have 1 or 2
flights
Notes
On
the night of June 24th, this larva walked up and down every stem
of
the host plant over and over again until midnight. On June 25th,
it
purged it's excess liquid and was placed in a paper
tube to pupate.
